Chrysler PT Cruiser: a successful example of retro design

The stylish five-door hatchback Chrysler PT Cruiser with a retro design, made its debut in 2000 and then in 2005 has appeared a two-door convertible with a folding fabric top created on its base. Chrysler PT Cruiser was originally planned to be released under the brand Plymouth, but by the time of the appearing of the production version of the model, the Plymouth company was already going through hard times (and then the company was liquidated at all), so the Chrysler PT Cruiser name was proved.

By the way, the letters “PT” in the title of the car is an acronym for “Personal Transport”. Plus this letters indicate a name of the platform on which Chrysler PT Cruiser is built. Chrysler PT Cruiser design was developed by Brian Nesbit, who is also the author of no less extravagant appearance of the Chevrolet HHR, presented in 2005.

Overall length of a hatchback is 4290 mm (size of the wheelbase is 2616 mm), width – 1704 mm, height – 1600 mm. The base engine is a 2.4-liter petrol 4-cylinder power plant generating 143 hp, it is available in a couple with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. In addition, a turbocharged version of this engine is available. It has two variants of an output: 180 and 230 hp.
